Sada Jacobson wins Silver & Bronze medals in the 2008 Olympic Games
Sada Jacobson, a top-ranked fencer from Dunwoody, GA, won a silver and bronze medal at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China. Jacobson was the 2007 World Champion in Women’s Sabre Fencing, and was ranked #1 in the world going into the Olympic Games. She managed to defeat talented opponents from around the world to reach the gold medal match. Although her teammate, Mariel Zagunis, managed to edge her out of the gold by winning the match, the U.S. women sabre fencers had tasted historic success. The U.S. Women’s Sabre Team managed to sweep the individual event, winning all three medals: gold to Zagunis, silver to Jacobson, and bronze to fellow U.S. teammate, Rebecca Ward. The U.S. women had made history, winning the United States its first medals of the 2008 Olympic Games.
The 2008 games in Beijing marked Jacobson’s second trip to the Olympics. She earned a bronze medal in the individual women’s sabre event in the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece. At that time, Jacobson was the 2004 U.S. National Champion, and had made history in June 2003 when she won two World Cup competitions in a row. She was also the first U.S. woman and second U.S. fencer to ever rank #1 in the world. After the 2004 Olympic Games, Jacobson went on to win the 2005 World Championship.
The U.S. Women’s Sabre Team went on to claim more Olympic success during the Beijing games, as Jacobson and her teammates managed to defeat France to win a bronze medal for the United States in the women's team event.
